Something Interesting

Page history last edited by Dan Gilbert 11 years, 12 months ago

A page for all of us to post something unexpected or otherwise inspiring. No formal formatting rules, just please include a link (images?) and maybe a sentence or two about why you think others might find it interesting.

For example:

The History of Learning Spaces

Here is a learning space design challenge that I hope none of us will ever have to ecounter:

Virginia Tech's Norris Hall to House Peace Center (from Washingtonpost.com) - this article describes Virginia Tech's project to transform the site of the tragic school shooting to a center emphasizing peace and nonviolence. There are a lot of issues in this example about learning from experience, the experience embedded in the space and who owns the space where bad things have happened. Perhaps we can get some time to unpack this in class. - Dan December 28, 2007

NYTimes Magazine story about impact of mobile phones. What caught me here was the description of one of the key figures in the story as a 'human behavior researcher', an in house anthropologist for at echnology company. This is the role that the Intel/India team's contacts have and something everyone in this class is capable of bringing to their organizations.

A Possible Prototyping Tool? Virtual Lego World

After speaking with the architecture students in Aalborg, I was reminded of this program/ game: http://www.roblox.com/ . Maybe virtual lego blocks (like second life) would be a quick way to build spaces and experience them...

Maya Personal Learning Edition

I've been using a 3D animation program called Maya for several years. It has a pretty steep learning curve, but if anyone feels like giving it a try, the company offers a free version called Maya Personal Learning Edition. It places an ugly watermark in front of everything you do, but it's fully functional, and you can use it to learn how the program works. -- Scott
